Overview

What interior painting actually involves: done properly

Interior painting isn't rolling emulsion onto a wall. It's the sequence of small, disciplined decisions made before the first coat, and it's where ninety per cent of finishes are won or lost.

We are a Bracknell-based interior painting team serving homes across Berkshire. Our work covers full-house repaints, single-room refreshes, new-build snagging, period property restoration, kitchen and bathroom repaints, hallway and stairwell decoration, and detailed woodwork on doors, skirting, architrave, panelling and built-in joinery.

Homeowners typically call us when they're preparing to sell, finishing a renovation or extension, refreshing tired rooms before Christmas, or stripping back the previous owner's colour choices in a recently purchased property. We also work routinely with local interior designers and lettings agents who need a reliable, on-time finish.

The reason people keep specifying professional interior painting, rather than tackling it themselves, is the prep. Filling, caulking, sanding, masking and dust control are slow, methodical, deeply unglamorous work. Skip any of them and the finish reveals itself in twelve months: rolled-edge tide-marks, hairline cracks reopening, flashing where cutting-in meets the roller, sandpaper scratches catching the side-light. Done correctly, the same paint lasts a decade and still looks deliberate.

Don't ignore this

Why a cut-price repaint costs you twice

Most of the failed paint jobs we're asked to rescue weren't done by amateurs, they were done by cheap professionals who skipped the boring parts. Here's what happens when interior painting is rushed.

Cracks reopen within a season

Hairline cracks not raked-out and properly filled with flexible filler will reappear the moment the heating cycles. By February the wall looks worse than before you paid for it.

Flashing and patchy sheen

Cutting-in with a different roller texture to the main wall, or using the wrong number of coats over a colour change, creates visible sheen patches in raking daylight, the kind you only spot once the dust sheets come off.

Brush marks on woodwork

Trim painted with the wrong brush, the wrong product or without inter-coat denibbing leaves a finish that telegraphs every stroke. On gloss skirting it's permanent until it's stripped back.

Damage to floors, furniture and fittings

Inadequate masking and dust-sheeting means paint mist on hardwood floors, splashes on sockets, and overspray on light fittings. A 'cheap' quote that destroys a £2,000 carpet is the most expensive paint job you can buy.

Our Process

A clear sequence,no guesswork, no chaos.

  1. 01

    Survey & fixed quote

A one-hour home visit to measure, assess substrate condition, agree colours and finish levels, and confirm sequencing. You receive a written, fixed-price quote within 24 hours: no day-rates, no surprises.

  2. 02

    Preparation & protection

Floors fully covered with cotton dust sheets, furniture moved and wrapped, sockets and switches masked, fixtures removed where needed. Filling, caulking, sanding and stain-blocking completed before any topcoat lifts a lid.

  3. 03

    Cutting-in & first coat

Edges cut in by hand with a long-bristle synthetic brush, walls rolled wet-on-wet to avoid lap marks, ceilings sprayed or rolled depending on access. Drying times respected to the manufacturer's specification.

  4. 04

    Second coat & woodwork

Second coat applied once the first is fully cured, woodwork denibbed between coats with fine abrasive, gloss and satinwood finishes built up in thin, even passes for an even sheen.

  5. 05

    Walk-through & sign-off

We tour every room with you in raking daylight, snag anything you spot, hand over a written record of products used and remaining tins for future touch-ups, and only pack up when you're genuinely happy.

Benefits

What you actually get,not vague promises.

Speed without shortcuts

A typical four-bedroom interior is completed in five to eight working days. We sequence rooms so the family can stay in the house throughout, with at least one bedroom and bathroom always usable.

A finish that holds for a decade

Properly prepped walls and trade-grade product specification mean ten-year service life in a normal family home, not the three-to-four years a rushed repaint typically delivers.

Lower total cost over time

One professional repaint at the right price beats two cheap repaints in five years, both in pounds spent and in disruption avoided.

Cleaner, calmer working days

Dust-sheets folded each evening, tools stored, hoovering before we leave. Nobody comes home to a building site.

Specification that suits the room

Bathrooms get scrubbable mould-resistant emulsions; hallways get high-traffic durables; ceilings get matt; woodwork gets the right water-based satinwood, not a one-tin-fits-all approach.

Real accountability

One business owner, one phone number, one named lead decorator on site. No labour-only subbies you've never met working in your home.

In Depth

The detail behindthe finished result.

Paint products we specify and why

For walls in living areas we generally specify Dulux Diamond Matt or Little Greene Intelligent Matt: both wipeable, both extremely forgiving in raking light. In hallways and stairwells we step up to a scrubbable acrylic eggshell so dirt comes off without burnishing.

Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion and Modern Emulsion are specified for clients who want the company's signature pigment depth. Modern Emulsion gives a wipeable surface; Estate Emulsion sits flatter and richer. We will always tell you honestly when a cheaper product would deliver an indistinguishable finish.

Woodwork is normally finished in a water-based satinwood, typically Tikkurila Helmi or Dulux Diamond, to avoid the yellowing that plagues older oil-based gloss. Where a traditional oil finish is requested we use it and accept the longer cure time.

Substrates we work on

New plaster, old lath-and-plaster, lined walls, painted woodchip awaiting a strip, MDF skirting, hardwood architrave, plasterboard ceilings, Artex (where retained), brick chimney breasts, lining-paper hung as a base, and bare timber doors.

Each substrate has its own primer and mist-coat regime. Fresh plaster gets a thinned watered-back mist coat to seal the suction; previously painted woodwork is sanded and primed with an adhesion primer rather than overcoated direct. Stain-blockers go on knots, water marks and nicotine residue before any topcoat.

Where we work in your home

Living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways, stairwells, landings, dining rooms, home offices, utility rooms, garage interiors, loft conversions, conservatories, and dressing rooms. We're equally comfortable on a 1930s Bracknell semi, a Victorian terrace in Reading, a new-build in Wokingham, or a Listed building in Windsor.

Colour consultation and sampling

Specifying a colour from a printed chart almost never works, chart pigments don't reflect light the way wall paint does, and the room's light changes the perception entirely. We supply A3 sample boards or paint generous test patches in two or three positions in the room, viewed at morning, midday and evening before final sign-off.

Where you want help, our included colour consultation walks through scheme cohesion across the whole house: undertones, trim relationships, ceiling colour decisions, and how an open-plan space reads when adjacent walls disagree.

Residential vs commercial

The bulk of our work is residential, but we also undertake light commercial: offices, treatment rooms, serviced apartments and small retail interiors across Berkshire. The standards are the same; the scheduling is different. Commercial jobs are typically run out-of-hours to avoid disrupting trade, with phased dust-control sign-off so the unit can re-open the morning after.

Common Questions

Everything you needbefore we start.

How much does interior painting cost in Bracknell?

Costs vary by room size, prep required, ceiling height and finish specification, but as a guide a standard double bedroom with sound walls is typically £450–£750 fully prepped and two-coated. We always quote in writing on a fixed-price basis after a site visit so there are no day-rate surprises.

How long does a full-house interior repaint take?

A standard three-bed semi takes five to seven working days with one crew. A four-to-five bedroom home with woodwork and stairwell typically runs eight to twelve days. We sequence rooms so the family can remain in the home throughout.

Do you move furniture?

Yes, as standard. We move and re-cover furniture, take down curtains where needed, and remove socket faces and light switches to paint cleanly behind them. Heavy items like wardrobes or pianos are discussed at quote stage.

Will the smell affect us living in the house?

We specify low-VOC, water-based products almost everywhere, so smells are minimal and dissipate within hours. Rooms are usable the same evening. Where solvent-based products are unavoidable we sequence around bedrooms.

What guarantee do you offer?

All workmanship is covered by a five-year guarantee. If anything fails through our preparation or application within that period we return and fix it without charge.

Do you supply the paint?

Yes: paint, primer, fillers, abrasives, dust-sheets and consumables are all included in the quoted price. We pass on our trade discount where applicable and never mark up paint products.

Can you paint over wallpaper?

Sometimes, if the paper is well-stuck, smooth and not vinyl. More often we recommend stripping first and either lining the walls or preparing the bare plaster. We'll tell you honestly at survey which approach is right for your walls.

Do you work in occupied homes?

Yes, the majority of our work is in occupied homes. Daily dust-sheet-down, hoovering, and at-least-one-bedroom-always-available scheduling means family life carries on around us.

Are you insured?

Fully: we carry £5 million public liability insurance and copies are available on request before work begins.

Do you cover my area?

Yes: we serve Bracknell, Ascot, Reading, Windsor, Binfield, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Oxford and Guildford. Call 07479 561864 to confirm a site visit slot.
